Unreal Engine 5.5.1
Unreal Engine 5.5 introduces a host of rendering enhancements, making it a powerhouse for virtual production and broadcasting. Nanite and Lumen improvements offer better detail and lighting fidelity, while Megalights streamline the illumination of expansive environments with support for complex, multi-light setups. Optimizations in parallel translation deliver up to 2x rendering speed gains by reducing stalls and improving thread performance, while asynchronous task execution enhances render dependency and slate rendering for smoother workflows.
The update also brings creative tools like Cloners and Effectors with advanced collision and proximity effects, expanding options for Motion Design. Material Designer updates refine PBR workflows, allowing for more realistic materials. Animation Layers simplify animation workflows by enabling layered blending and editing, giving artists greater control over intricate animations.
In addition, features like Day Sequence and Local Fog Volumes enable dynamic environmental storytelling, with tools for time-of-day transitions and localized atmospheric effects. The Light Function Atlas optimizes light textures for better performance, especially in scenes requiring multiple dynamic light sources, ensuring both creative flexibility and efficiency in production pipelines.
DLSS is currently not available as NVIDIA has not released its plugin for 5.5 yet.
