Playback 2D media on the LED wall

This will allow you to render media from file or input flatly on top of an LED wall.

Use standard media components

When doing XR rendering it is possible to use standard Pixotope media components and render flatly on a plane or something else in the scene, as is common in Pixotope VS and AR.

Pros

  • Works the same as in a VS or AR scene, so it can easily be used in either setup

  • Can be translated in the world in any desired way

  • Naturally blends between XR walls and Set extension

Cons

  • The video is affected by TAA (not pixel perfect sampling)

  • If the XR geometry is not perfectly flat

    • it is confusing and unintuitive to align

    • it is not always possible to place without any video distortion

If the Cons outweigh the Pros, continue with the steps below.

Setup 2D media playback for XR

A Digital twin (either manual or automatic) must be setup and routed first.

Arrange bodies on canvas

It is possible to play back 2D media across multiple bodies.

  1. Select each body and arrange it on the canvas in a way it reflects how the 2D media should map across the bodies

If one of the bodies should not show any 2D media. Move it out of the way.

Create 2D media

  1. Go to the LED mapping panel

  2. Switch to the "2D media" tab

  3. Click the + icon to create a new 2D media

Set input source

  1. Select an input type and a source

  2. Width and height are set based on the selected source

Adjust position and size

  1. Position and scale the 2D media using

    • the mouse on the canvas

    • OR the input fields to the right

Make sure to keep the aspect ratio of the source to avoid non-uniform scaling. Changing the aspect ratio can only be done using the input fields.

Adjust cropping

  1. Adjust the starting point of the cropped area using the X and Y values

  2. Adjust the width and height accordingly

If X + width or Y + height extends the size of the source, pixels will be repeated.

Advanced

It is possible to render 2D media appear outside the camera frustrum:

  1. In Pixotope World Settings > XR set Outside Camera View to Render Color and enable Allow XR Media Below frustrum.
